Tell us a little about your business in your own words. – My business is a mental health therapy practice. We currently serve individuals, couples, families, and children with their mental health and substance use therapy services.

How did you get started in the business? – Always had a passion to be an entrepreneur. When I was kid I would go around my neighborhood and cut people’s yards weekly. I also participated in not so healthy forms of entrepreneurship. I began selling drugs at the age of 13, a product of my environment and a broken home. But the skills I used doing that helped me to understand how business worked when I began my practice in 2022.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – The biggest challenge I have faced professionally is jumping from working for somebody else to being in private practice. There was a level of uncertainty and unease.

What has been your most important achievement professionally? – Building up a full caseload for myself in a period of 30 days after starting my private practice. Also clearing $1,000,000 in revenue generated in less than 4 years time.

Tell us a little about your family. – I am married to my wife Crystal and have 5 children.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – In 2013, at 19 years old while on a football scholarship at Wayne State College, I was arrested on felony drug charges and was facing 10-15 years in prison. I got the opportunity to participate in Drug Court in Norfolk. It was a 2 year rehab program which at the end my charges were dropped and record sealed. I worked with a therapist while in this program and it changed my life. I processed trauma and realized there were many people from where I was from that needed this help but didn’t have the access to relatable care. I earned my scholarship back, graduated from Wayne in 2016 and began my Masters at UNO in 2017.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – I enjoy spending time with my wife and children. If I have consecutive days off, then I’d definitely travel with my family.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I am not extroverted but I can talk and hold long conversations. I am an ambivert.

Who inspires you? – My mother has always had my back and been there for me. Through my rough childhood and teenage years, to raising me and my two siblings as a single mother, she has always persevered and made the most out of life. She has afforded me many of my best memories, made it possible for me to be who I am today.

What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – “The aphorism, ‘As a man thinketh in his heart so is he,’ not only embraces the whole of a man’s being, but is so comprehensive as to reach out to every condition and circumstance of his life. A man is literally what he thinks, his character being the complete sum of all his thoughts.” – James Allen
