Meet Cheryl Widhalm, the operations manager at AR Solutions.

Tell us a little about your business. – For 17 years and counting, AR Solutions has been a trusted partner for professionally handling collections needs on behalf of its local clients. AR Solutions is a third-party debt collection agency that recovers past-due receivables, allowing clients to focus on their core business. We have real answers that yield real results—in some cases, four times the national average! Our agency has a division that specializes in healthcare collections that is HIPAA compliant. All asset recovery specialists are trained on medical billing, medical terminology, and insurance processes which accelerates recovery of receivables due clients. In addition to healthcare collections, AR Solutions also has a division that performs retail and commercial collections.

How did you get started in the business? – A former colleague of mine was in the industry and approached me about an opportunity that she felt would be a good fit. That was in 1996 and here I am today!

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – Collections is a very heavily regulated industry and is constantly evolving, which keeps me on my toes and always looking for new, innovative ideas.

What has been your most important achievement professionally? – Being promoted to my current position, which has allowed me to expand my knowledge of all of the intricate pieces involved in running a successful company.

Tell us a little about your family. – I have three children—Bryson, Shelby, and Jameson and two fur babies Molly and Lulu.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – When I decided to become a foster parent, which led me to adopting my daughter.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – I love to travel. My favorite destination has been Italy—I have a deep love for their culture, history, and wine.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I am a hobby stained-glass artist.

What are you the most proud of? – My children, whether it be their accomplishments or kind nature towards others.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – Don’t let the naysayers rob you of your dream.

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Passionate.

If you had a theme song, what would it be? – “I Want It” by Blue October.

What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? – I restored an 1889 Queen Ann Victorian. I have extensive construction knowledge and regularly have projects underway.

What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? – CEDARS has been near and dear to my heart as I have been a foster parent for this organization since 2013. They are truly a wonderful team to partner with as they make such a difference in the lives of children and families.

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read?What Do You Do With An Idea? by Kobi Yamada.

What is your favorite movie?The Blind Side.
