Visiting Nurse Association honored Ann Hatting with the 2014 Mary Longmaid Offutt Award. Hatting, a VNA shelter nurse, works primarily with men from area homeless shelters, many of which have chronic health conditions and complicated medical histories. Through her assessments, she gets to know her clients and works with them to assure their health needs are met by providing health education and guidance, connecting them to health and community resources and advocating for them when extra support is needed.

A VNA employee for 24 years, Hatting has had several positions within the organization, from IV nursing to hospice care as a night nurse to the shelter program. Hatting considers the recognition she receives almost every day from a grateful patient an honor. When she is not working, Hatting is active at her church and enjoys activities with her family and crafts such as cake decorating and crocheting.

The award is named after Mary Longmaid Offutt, a past board member, officer and longtime supporter of the VNA. The Mary Longmaid Offutt award is based on peer nomination and interviews, with the winner chosen by a committee of VNA board members and past winners.
