Omaha’s brave and hardy runners will “Heat the Streets” starting in Turner Park, located at 33rd and Farnam Streets, at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 1st as they set out on a timed 5K run to raise funds to help less fortunate neighbors to pay their utility bills.  Joining the runners will be teams from Omaha corporations and organizations who will start at 9:30 a.m. to “Walk for Warmth”, a one mile fundraiser for area energy assistance programs.  All participants will end at the Marcus Midtown Theater for awards, popcorn and hot chocolate.  Registration is $35 for runners and $25 for walkers.  Leading up to the event will be the “Feed the Need” fundraising event, which will run from February 16th through March 2nd, when restaurants in Midtown Crossing will donate a portion of the proceeds from featured menu items to Heartland Walk for Warmth Energy Assistance.  Funds raised by the Heat the Streets Run and Walk for Warmth are administered by area non-profit social service organizations.  Tax deductible donations may be made through Downtown Omaha, Inc.
