Omaha Home for Boys’ Project Christmas Joy Provided Celebration, Gifts for Kids, Families

The Omaha Home for Boys (ohb.org) worked especially hard to make the holidays special for the youth and families in their programs, and their Project Christmas Joy holiday gift and essentials drive in December provided holiday celebrations and gifts for 130 young adults and 45 children on Christmas morning. Many youth in their programs also joined in on holiday traditions, including decorating trees, baking cookies, and hanging lights. Omaha Home for Boys President and CEO Jeff DeWispelare said the campus was full of holiday spirit, and so many youth there said the 2020 holiday traditions were the first in which they had ever taken part.

“Every year, we hear from our youth and families that their celebration with us was the only Christmas they had,” Jeff said. “It always warms our hearts to know we are helping them make special memories. Another goal was to ensure that every youth in our programs experienced the joy of Christmas by receiving a gift during the holidays, so we could make these young adults and families feel special, loved, and celebrated.”

The Omaha Home for Boys equips youth, young adults, and families with the skills needed to become self-sufficient and productive members of the community. Programs include Inspiration Hill Residential Living, Jacob’s Place Transitional Living, Branching Out Independent Living, Supportive Housing, and clinical services, in addition to support services in the form of education and scholarships, Youth Mart, and Valley View 4-H.
