From volunteering time to supporting local nonprofits, people across the metro are celebrating Global Volunteer Month in April by finding ways to take action and give back.

“Volunteering brings people together around a shared purpose,” said Shawna Forsberg, president and CEO of United Way of the Midlands (UWM)(unitedwaymidlands.org). “United Way of the Midlands helps bring the spirit of neighbors helping neighbors to life through opportunities to give and serve.”

Throughout April, UWM is offering ways for individuals and companies to get involved and encouraging volunteerism more broadly in partnership with the City of Omaha’s Year of the Neighbor initiative. In addition to volunteer projects available at nonprofits all month long, community members are invited to participate in a Community Good on the Go event on April 30, bringing individuals together to support local nonprofits through hands-on service. UWM will also recognize community champions at the Volunteer Appreciation Awards Luncheon on April 9, where nine volunteers will be honored for their dedication to helping others across the metro.

During National Volunteer Week, April 19–25, six UWM corporate partners will host custom Good on the Go kit builds, giving employees the opportunity to work together assembling essential items for nonprofit programs.

For companies and individuals looking to make a difference, UWM offers a variety of volunteer opportunities, partnerships and ways to give back. To learn more about opportunities to get involved and support the causes you care about, visit UnitedWayMidlands.org/Volunteer.
