Chabad of Nebraska (ochabad.com) is proud to announce the reopening of its community food pantry in 2026, bringing renewed hope and support to families facing food insecurity. Originally launched in 1992 as the first kosher food pantry in West Omaha, and still the only in the city, the pantry served thousands of individuals with dignity for more than three decades before temporarily closing in 2023 for major renovations.

The updated facility will reestablish an essential lifeline for the community while introducing enhanced safety and privacy protocols designed to protect every client’s experience. These improvements reflect a continued commitment to ensuring families can access nutritious foods in a comfortable and respectful environment.

Fresh produce will be grown through Chabad’s expanding community garden; a hands-on effort that brings volunteers, families, and neighbors together to cultivate fruits and vegetables for the pantry. This garden-to-pantry connection reflects Chabad’s holistic approach to nourishment: feeding bodies while nurturing hearts and community ties.

Chabad of Nebraska has continued serving the community through its many programs and outreach efforts during the renovation period. Now, they look forward to once again welcoming families directly into the pantry as soon as reopening preparations are complete. More details, including volunteer opportunities and donation needs, will be shared as the official launch approaches and can be found at (ochabad.com/volunteer).
