FAMILY, Inc. Receives $10K to Support Maternal Health Program

FAMILY, Inc. (familyia.org) recently received $10,000 from the Women’s Fund of Southwest Iowa to continue support for their Maternal Health Program. This program provides nursing education and psychosocial support to pregnant women in Pottawattamie and Mills counties who are on Medicaid through six weeks postpartum. The explicit goal of the program is to make sure more babies can celebrate their first birthday (prevent infant mortality) and improve birth outcomes, as accomplished through family centered, community-based services.

“We know well that a healthy and whole parent dramatically increases their child’s chances for success in the future,” said Kimberly Kolakowski, executive director of FAMILY, Inc. “We are honored to partner with the Women’s Fund of Southwest Iowa in making that happen!”

The Women’s Fund of Southwest Iowa was designed to improve the quality of life and well-being of women and their families. The goal of the fund is to reach out and work closely with organizations to identify needs and design tangible solutions. For more information, visit www.ourpccf.org.
