Forever Friends Pet Cemetery at Forest Lawn (forestlawnomaha.com) has announced Guardians Field, a special area reserved exclusively for law enforcement animals that have fallen in the line of duty or retired from service. Developed in partnership with local law enforcement, Guardians Field is part of a program that also helps to cover burial expenses of these animals.
“We respect the contributions these special animals make to area law enforcement agencies. Guardians Field is a way to honor them with a place of tribute, respect and remembrance,” said Brian Kruse, executive director at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Cemetery and Mausoleum.
Forest Lawn is working with law enforcement personnel from individual policing agencies on fundraising eXorts to cover burial expenses. Forever Friends is donating space and burial fees, while law enforcement fundraises for headstones and other items. Plans are also underway to raise monies for a permanent monument to recognize and honor the service and dedication of these remarkable service animals.
According to Kruse, trainers and law enforcement teams with cremated remains of law enforcement animals are welcome to contact Forever Friends to make arrangements.
“These animals become close companions to their law enforcement partners, and really the entire team. It’s important that they have a permanent resting place that honors what is truly a lifetime of service,” Kruse said.
