Inclusive Communities to Host Third Annual FriendsGiving Celebration

After your Thanksgiving feast has settled, join Inclusive Communities (inclusive-communities.org) for some laughs at their third annual friend-raiser, FriendsGiving. The casual event will be held at the Slowdown, 729 N. 14th St., on Sunday, December 1 with the doors opening at noon and the hour-long show beginning at 1 p.m. Tickets are $25 each and include one drink and heavy hors d’oeuvres. FriendsGiving is designed to raise funds and awareness for Inclusive Communities, which works to confront biases by creating opportunities for one-on-one interactions and meaningful conversations among individuals of all ages and backgrounds.

For the third consecutive year, comedian and Omaha native Amber Ruffin will join Inclusive Communities as the special guest speaker. Ruffin is the first black woman to write for a network late-night show, Late Night with Seth Meyers, and was also the first black woman to host the Writers Guild of America Awards. She is well-known as an actress, YouTube personality, and writer, and is currently working on a series entitled The Amber Ruffin Show for NBC’s new streaming service.

“FriendsGiving is a chance to relax, have some laughs, and meet the people behind the mission of Inclusive Communities,” said Executive Director Maggie Wood. “Amber reminds us through her comedy, that even in the toughest times, we can use humor to combat hate and then turn that into action.”
