Omaha Home for Boys has served youth in the Omaha community for more than 93 years, providing care and support for at-risk youth ages 12-24 as part of its mission of Strengthening Youth and Families. They remain committed to providing services to young men and women through family-style, community-based programs supported by education.  Trish Haniszewski is the Events Manager and Gifts Officer at the Omaha Home for Boys.

How did you get started in the business? – I had worked for another nonprofit organization a few years ago.  When I saw the Development and Events Manager position opening at Omaha Home for Boys, I knew I wanted to do this type of work again. It’s the passion and desire to help others in fulfilling the Home’s mission that attracted me.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – Wearing a lot of hats, which I feel has benefited me in many ways. The need for ongoing creativity is one of the most exciting aspects of what I do. I am constantly being challenged to figure out how to fulfill our mission quicker, cheaper and better and to reach people in new, innovative ways. It’s all very rewarding!

What has been your most important achievement professionally? – I am just so inspired to have been involved in the orchestration of the Helping with Horsepower Bike Rebuild Project as the Program Facilitator at Omaha Home for Boys for the second year in a row!  I couldn’t have been more fortunate to meet and work with Laura Klock of Klock Werks Kustom Cycles, who developed this program for use across the country.  I’m also very thankful to have met and worked with Jeremy and Mike Colchin, volunteer mechanics from Black Rose Machine Shop, Inc., and the other dedicated partners who have helped youth at the Home feel the sense of accomplishment on this motorcycle project. I feel I’ve accomplished a lot, too!

Tell me a little about your family. – I have been blessed with three remarkably talented children; my two daughters ages 26 and 23 and my son, who is 17.  I am very close to my wonderful family – I have great parents, and I’m a middle child with six siblings.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – The day I met my boyfriend, Jeff about 4 years ago. In that moment, the course of my life changed.  He’s very good to me and my kids, and I’m thankful every day for that.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – Spend time with my boyfriend and kids, especially boating on the river.

What are you the most proud of? – Becoming successful as a single parent of three great kids.  I’ve faced many struggles, challenges and joys over the years, and this experience has changed my outlook on life in a very positive way.

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Passionate.

If you had a theme song, what would it be? – “Unstoppable” by Rascal Flatts.

What is your favorite local restaurant? – The Drover Restaurant & Lounge; I love their Whiskey Filet!

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? – Ellen DeGeneres.  I think she is an amazingly funny and generous person who makes people feel good.
