How did you get started in the business? – Ever since I was in high school, I enjoyed putting words and pictures together to tell a story. In college, I majored in journalism and minored in art. Since graduation, I have either worked in corporate communications or for news publications. I can’t image doing anything else.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – Moving from print to digital publications. Digital was moving so quickly, I basically learned digital marketing on the fly. It was challenging, but exhilarating. AI is proving to be just as challenging.
What has been your most important achievement professionally? – Becoming the art director at Strictly Business. I’m really enjoying it.
Tell us a little about your family. – I am married to a wonderful husband and we have three children as a blended family. The kids are all grown and left the nest. My daughter lives with her husband here in Nebraska while my stepson and his fiance live in California and my son in Florida.
What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – My father was in the Air Force and we lived in Hawaii for five years. It was a magical time in the 70’s where I learned to hula, play the ukulele and body surf. We frequently played frisbee on the beach which has come in handy today as I enjoy playing frisbee golf.
Who inspires you? – My mother has been an inspiriation to me all my life. A German immigrant who survived the death of her parents at a young age, she has taught me resilience and fortitude. She just turned 90 and is still going strong.
What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – “Listen to your heart.”
If you had a theme song, what would it be? – “This Girl is On Fire” by Alicia Keys.
If you could have a super power, what would it be? – Manipulate time.
Which talent would you most like to have? – The ability to sing.
What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? – I got involved with Moms Demand Action, because when I was growing up, my family survived domestic gun violence. I’ve organized events, testified before the Nebraska Legislature and traveled to Washington D.C. to advocate for sensible gun laws.
What is your favorite movie? – When Harry Met Sally. I watch it every year around the holidays.
What is your favorite TV show? – I’m a big fan of Public Television, but Antiques Roadshow is my favorite.
