Meet Steve Caffery, operations manager at redbox+ of Omaha.

Tell us a little about your business. – redbox+ (redboxplus.com/omaha) provides commercial/residential dumpster rental and waste management disposal services to Omaha clients and the surrounding areas. With our unique U.S. patented, one-of-kind toilet roll-off container combo, you will have everything you need at every project. Plus, our redbox+ Customer Care Standard means you won’t have to worry about on-time delivery, on-time pick up, or clean up when the job is done.

How did you get started in the business? – Mark Fredrickson, CEO of redbox+ of Omaha, and I have been friends for several years. When I became furloughed indefinitely with the railroad, Mark asked if I would be interested in joining him on a new business venture. I researched the industry, and after several discussions with Mark, I decided to jump right in and haven’t looked back.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – Business is hopping! My biggest challenge would definitely be managing my schedule and not letting my schedule manage me.

Tell us a little about your family. – I have an amazing wife of 14 years, Lori. She is an administrator for a nonprofit organization called EducationQuest Foundation. We have a beautiful daughter, Kate, who is in eighth grade at Beadle Middle School in Millard. She loves cheer and volleyball, and keeping us on our toes. We also have two elderly rescue dogs—Lacy, a Rhodesian Ridgeback mix, and Bella, a Papillon. My wife asked that I remind you to “Adopt, Don’t Shop!”

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – It would probably be meeting my wife and starting our family.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – Spending time outside in the summer—maintaining our pool, doing yard work, taking care of my wife’s vegetable garden, and hosting fire pit nights with friends.

What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – “Don’t sweat the small stuff.” Life is too short to worry about things that we have no control over.

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Dedicated.

If you had a theme song, what would it be? – “Livin on a Prayer” by Bon Jovi. To me, it has always symbolized hope and faith.

If you could have a super power, what would it be? – Flying for sure! Which talent would you most like to have? – Public speaking.

If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – Something that would call me to help people, like maybe a police officer or firefighter.

What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? – The Nebraska Humane Society for sure. My wife, daughter, and I are huge advocates of pet adoption, especially the dogs that nobody else wants.

What is your favorite movie? – I’d pick one of the Star Wars movies, like The Empire Strikes Back or Return of the Jedi.

What is your favorite TV show? – The Mandalorian.

What is your favorite local restaurant? – Lazlo’s Brewery & Grill.
