Rick Magill had been looking at business opportunities when his brother called him and told him he’d been looking into the Senior Care Industry.  They started doing research and visiting franchise systems and found Comfort Keepers.  His brother bought three franchises and was in business for six months in North Carolina  before Rick decided to come on board by buying three franchises in Omaha/Council Bluffs and have now been providing care for those who need it most for 10 years.  Comfort Keepers is a licensed home care agency that helps individuals live independently in their own homes.  They provide cares ranging from medication set ups, bathing, transferring, meal preparation and light housekeeping among many other things.

Tell us a little about your family.
I have two children: Spencer(12) and Sydni (10) who attend St. Vincent de Paul.  My wife Denise and I are both from small towns in Iowa.  Sports play a major function in our family as both children are active in basketball and soccer.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life?
The day I met my wife Denise.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off?
I love to cook and if I took a day off that wasn’t with the family I would probably start the day prepping an evening meal.  After the prep work I would do something outside such as biking, kayaking or working in the yard.  I would then end up cooking the meal and adding back all the calories that I burnt off with my daily activity.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know?
I was a college basketball and soccer coach.  I helped start the soccer program at Central College in Pella, IA and was an assistant basketball coach with the women’s program that won a National Championship.

What are you the most proud of?
My family.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
Almost everyday I get some kind of advice from my children, wife, employees, or reading something that I believe can make me a better father, owner, or friend.

What is the one goal you would most like to accomplish?
I have a long list of goals I would like to accomplish but number one on that list would be to inspire my children to be successful in life and create their own path.

What are your plans after retirement?
Not sure but it will deal with helping people.  I hope this day is a long ways away as we love what we are doing and truly have a passion to help.

Which talent would you most like to have?
I guess writing because answering these questions is one of the hardest things I have done lately.
What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? – Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson.

What is your favorite movie?
Any old Clint Eastwood western movie.  I have probably seen all of them 20 times

What is your favorite TV show?
Shark Tank

What is your favorite local restaurant?
Depends, for a great steak I would have to go with Mahogany’s, or Italian it would have to be Mangia’s.

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be?
Mario Batali, famous Italian chef.
