River City Six – Katherine Crawford
Meet Katherine Crawford, the art director for Strictly Business.
Tell us a little about your business.
Strictly Business is a monthly news and marketing publication that represents local businesses and connects readers with different industry experts. Our magazine is direct mailed to over 15,000 businesses in Omaha every month!
How did you get started in the business?
I graduated from UNL in December 2016 and have worked as a graphic designer since then. I started at Strictly Business this past April and have enjoyed getting to help clients with their marketing efforts through print design.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally?
As someone who works in the creative field, I’m my own harshest critic, so I try not to be too hard on myself. Although, my shortcomings and any mistakes I might make allow for creative growth.
What has been your most important achievement professionally?
Having a client tell my boss how much she enjoyed working with me, and how I came up with the perfect ad for her company.
Tell us a little about your family.
My mom and stepdad recently moved back to Lincoln from Kearney. I also have a brother and sister, and our family has a pup named Millie.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off?
Ultimately, relax. I also enjoy going to the farmers market and concerts, and I like to find the best local coffee shops and wineries around town.
What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know?
My mom shot a hole-in-one when she was pregnant with me.
Who inspires you?
All of the strong women I have in my life.
What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
Be shy on your own time. A college professor said that one day in an arts class I was in. It’s stuck with me ever since.
If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be?
If you had a theme song, what would it be?
“Where You Lead” by Carole King. The Gilmore Girls theme song!
What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life?
Cooking/baking. I love trying new recipes and putting my own spin on them.
Which talent would you most like to have?
Being able to hit a golf ball further than six feet.
What local nonprofit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why?
My first job out of college was at Junior Achievement, and everyone on the staff was so passionate about their mission. Also Make-A-Wish because my sorority partners with them nationally, and we had a lot of opportunities to volunteer and hear from the kids they have impacted.
What is your favorite book or the last good book you read?
The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah is my current favorite.
What is your favorite movie?
The Devil Wears Prada.
What is your favorite local restaurant?
The Twisted Fork.
If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be?
