Nebraska Cremation is a locally owned and operated full-service funeral home that takes pride in offering many options for honoring those who have passed.  Greg Nabity is the owner of Nebraska Cremation.

How did you get started in the business? – Five years ago, I recognized that a trend toward simplicity in death care was emerging.  We decided to take advantage of our funeral home’s central location and devised a way to provide cremation services to a wide geographic area within the state.  Because we are able to serve a wide area from one location our overhead costs are low, which allows us to provide Simple Cremation services at a price much lower than other traditional funeral homes.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? –  Continuing to be relevant in a society where attitudes towards death and traditional ways of doing things when someone has died have changed dramatically.  I have worked very hard to stay ahead of the trend towards simpler ways of honoring a lost loved one.

What has been your most important achievement professionally? – Growing my cremation business 1,200 percent in just five years.  I have done this by providing exceptional service at a low price.

Tell us a little about your family. – My wife, Cindy, and I have been married for 26 years.  She is a retired vocal music instructor.  We have two children, twins Joseph and Carrie, who are 22 years old.  Carrie is in law school at Creighton.  Joseph is a systems analyst at Peter Kiewit and is working on his master’s degrees at UNO.

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – Being able to purchase my own funeral home 13 years ago.  That has been my dream since I was 14 years old.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – If my family is around, I like to spend time with them.  But I do enjoy being alone to renew myself also.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – Although I am a funeral director, I am also a physician assistant and I provide medical care on a part time basis in a clinic as well as in an emergency room.

What are you the most proud of? – My children.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – From the Bible, Mark 12:30.

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Sincere.

If you could have a super power, what would it be? – To be able to heal grief.

What is your greatest talent that you don’t utilize in your daily work life? – Playing the piano.

Which talent would you most like to have? – To have an extraordinary singing voice.

If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – Hotel management.

What local non-profit organization(s) are you passionate about or involved with, and are there any special reasons why? – I belong to several organizations in the community, but the one I am most passionate about is my church.  That is where I am able to keep my life on course.

What is your favorite movie? – The Big Chill.

What is your favorite TV show? – The Big Bang Theory.

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? – Jesus.  If he was unavailable, I’d choose Ronald Reagan.
