Tell us a little about your business. – We provide BMS/HVAC controls for commercial contractors. Control Depot (controldepotinc.com), a leading building automation and controls distributor serving Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, and South Dakota, continues to supporting contractors and building owners with reliable, innovative solutions—from simple thermostats to complete web-based automation systems. With over a decade of service, Control Depot remains dedicated to providing unparalleled value, expertise, and customer support throughout the region.
How did you get started in the business? – I installed HVAC controls for a little over 4 years before making the transition to selling HVAC controls.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – Moving from Installation in the field to inside sales.
What has been your most important achievement professionally? – Joining Control Depot, they are a highly respected organization known throughout the region for having great customer service and creating strong relationships with their clients through product knowledge. I knew that it would be a great fit.
What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life? – I would say that a pivotal turning point in my life would be learning to deal with the loss of a parent at 15 years old. It taught me to not take life too seriously and enjoy all that you can because you never know when it’s too late.
What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – On a day off, I enjoy to fish, go camping, stargaze. I also enjoy playing video games and watching movies.
What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know? – I hiked 12 hours to reach the summit of Pikes Peak in Colorado.
Who inspires you? – My father. After losing my Mom, he never gave up and did his best to provide for brother and myself.
What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – “If you wish to be the king of the jungle, it’s not enough to act like a king. You must be the king. There can be no doubt. Because doubt causes chaos and one’s own demise.”- said by Matthew McConaughey, playing Mickey Perason, in the 2019 action-comedy film, The Gentleman.
If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – I would want to be remembered as easygoing.
If you had a theme song, what would it be? – My theme song would be “The Kids Aren’t Alright” by The Offspring.
If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – For a different profession, I think I’d enjoy Meteorology.
What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? – 1984 by George Orwell and 12 Rules for Life, An Antidote to Chaos – Jordan Peterson
What is your favorite movie? – My favorite movie is Tommy Boy.
What is your favorite local Omaha restaurant? – There are a lot of great restaurants in Lincoln but my personal favorite is Boyd & Charlies BBQ.
If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? – For one famous person I’d like to have dinner with would be Carl Sagan or Richard Feynman.
