Tell us a little about Allergy, Asthma and Immunology Associates, P.C. and your role with the practice. – We provide consultative and specialized services to those affected by allergies and across the entire spectrum of related conditions.  Our main goal as an entire practice is to determine the specific cause of the issue(s) a patient is experiencing so we can treat that underlying root cause directly.  Our network extends all across Nebraska, with 20 offices that allow us access to satellite locations so we can serve patients in different areas of the state.  My primary office is in the Westgate Professional Center, which consists of four physicians who serve the greater Omaha community and surrounding areas such as Fremont, Blair and Papillion in Nebraska as well Council Bluffs and surrounding towns in Iowa.  My particular areas of interest are food allergy and chronic sinus disease.

How did you get started in your career and what interested you in this particular field of study? – I’ve been affected by severe allergies since I was a child, and I had a wonderful pediatrician who was a graduate of UNMC and interested me in the field of study.  I truly thought the world of him, and I’ve also always enjoyed children, so it all came together for me.  I pursued my medical degree at UNMC in Omaha after earning my bachelor’s degree from UNO and my master’s at the University of Missouri, and then completed my residency in Cincinnati and fellowship in Washington, D.C.  I’ve been in practice in Omaha since 2000, and in addition to being a partner at Allergy, Asthma and Immunology Associates, P.C. I am also an adjunct clinical professor of pediatrics at UNMC.

Tell us a little about your family. – I live in west Omaha with my wife, who is also a physician and works at UNMC.  I have two daughters; one is in osteopathic medical school and the other is completing her master’s degree in public health, and my stepson is also currently working on his degree in political science with a minor in business.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – I think the biggest challenge right now is the changing face of health insurance.  This is a challenge that affects not just myself but all physicians and our patients, and currently it has been more specific to dealing with the unintended consequences of the recent changes that are actually making coverage more expensive for my patients.

What has been your most important achievement professionally? – What I am able to offer my patients in the relief and subsequent management of their unique conditions.  Taking someone with a lot of issues and within a short period of time helping them to get substantial relief from their symptoms is the most gratifying part of what I do.
