Meet Deziree Medina, associate attorney at McGill Law, P.C., L.L.O. (McGillLawyers.com)

Tell us a little about your business. – McGill Law is the female focused firm that specializes in helping women through the divorce process, but this doesn’t mean we only represent women or only handle divorce matters. We practice in many areas of the law that affect the family including custody, guardianships, adoptions and estate planning.

We have a strong team of compassionate and hard-working attorneys and staff that are here to guide you through your legal needs.

How did you get started in the business? – I actually thought I was going to be in the mental health field when I grew up. I went to school for psychology with every intention of going to graduate school. My junior year of undergrad I realized I wasn’t truly happy with that plan, and after discussions with multiple professors, I decided to go to law school and never looked back.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – Doing just about anything with my German Shepherd, Lobo.

Who inspires you? – I’m inspired by confident, strong women who know what they want and are eager to earn what they deserve.

What is your favorite quote or the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – To not let fear stop you from doing anything in life, just go for it! You only have one life and you should make the most of it.

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Positive. This can be meant in so many ways – positive attitude, assured, confident. My grandma has told me my whole life that I got my name because I “was born in the desert” and I’m “a ray of sunshine.” It’s not true at all, but I’ve always tried to live my life with sunshine, even on the cloudy days.

If you had a theme song, what would it be? – There is no way I could pick just one song here. Instead, I’ll tell you a song I’ve been playing on repeat right now: “Photo ID” by Remi Wolf and Dominic Fike.

If you could have a super power, what would it be? – Teleportation. I could travel the world for free and wouldn’t have to waste time at airports! Never having to drive would also be a huge bonus.

Which talent would you most like to have? – To play an instrument (and be good at it). Music is so powerful, but I’m limited to just singing in the car.

If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – I’d love to be a sports journalist and/or broadcaster.

What is your favorite book or the last good book you read? – My favorite books will forever be the Harry Potter series, but Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is my favorite of the series.

What is your favorite TV show? – Oh, this is a tough question. It depends on my mood that day. Some of my favorites are Friday Night Lights, Parks and Recreation, Grey’s Anatomy, Stranger Things and The Last of Us.

What is your favorite local Omaha restaurant? – Mula.
