River City Six – Delilah Franklin-Robinson

Meet Delilah Franklin-Robinson, a lead baker at The Omaha Bakery.

Tell us a little about your business.

We’ve been coined as “The Keto Bakery” after the owner, Michelle Kaiser, started the ketogenic diet. Our keto recipes are delicious! We also specialize in custom cakes, cheesecakes, and other dessert items. We cater to a lot of weddings and special events, as well.

How did you get started in the business?

I had some experience in cake design, but I decided to go to school to be a pastry chef because I wanted more knowledge of the actually baking part of the process. I applied at The Omaha Bakery to get more hands-on experience. I’ve been here about six months and love it.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally?

At the bakery, we have a high volume to keep up with. I create about 60 cheesecakes a week! Especially as Michelle continues to network and make new connections, our demand grows. I enjoy the fast-paced nature of the job, though.

What has been your most important achievement professionally?

Balancing a full-time job and being an honor student in school.

Tell us a little about your family.

My family is originally from California and then moved to North Platte. My husband and I moved to Omaha two years ago. I’m in the middle of five siblings, all of whom have kids. I’m known as the world’s greatest aunt!

What do you see as one of the biggest turning points in your life?

Meeting my husband. I was going through a tough time before he came into my life, and he really helped lift me up. Deciding to enroll in college and select the career path I’m on was another turning point.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off?

Read, binge watch a show, and play with my dogs.

What is the most unique or interesting thing about you that most people probably don’t know?

I can sing opera. I didn’t let anyone know that for a while, but my sister caught me singing in my room one time so the cat is out of the bag now.

Who inspires you?

Michelle. She works so hard, and I really appreciate her taking me under wing and teaching me the business side of running a bakery. She also lets me experiment in the kitchen. My mom inspires me as well. She’s who I get my work ethic from.
