Tell us a little about your business. – Engineered Controls, Inc. is a locally owned & operated business, specializing in building automation, access and security control solutions. Headquartered out of Omaha, we also have full service branch offices in Lincoln and Des Moines providing sales, consulting, construction and 24/7 services support. Everyone working at Engineered Controls is constantly striving to do more and be better to strengthen the mutually beneficial relationships we have with our customers in order to sustain our community.

How did you get started in the business? – I began my job hunt during the last quarter of my college career at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Like a lot of students finishing up college, I was submitting résumés to a broad range of design firms, not knowing exactly what career I wanted to pursue. When I got the chance to interview with the President of Engineered Controls, Pat Killeen, I was drawn to the type of work they were doing with energy management and indoor air quality control in a myriad of different facilities. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering on a Saturday in May of 2007, and started my career at Engineered Controls the following Monday.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – Trying to be everything to everyone. Sometimes you need to just shut it off, go home, and reboot.

What has been your most important achievement professionally? – I’ve always had a very go-with-flow, flexible personality and it has truly helped me to work well with all of the different types of people in our industry.

Tell us a little about your family. – My wife, Rhiannon, and I have been a very happy and strong team since we met during our freshman year at college in Lincoln. We were married in June of 2009, and recently expanded our family with the birth of our son Phoenix in November of 2014.

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – Golf all morning and then hang out at the pool with my family in the afternoon.

What are you the most proud of? – My wife Rhiannon, who has been a huge supporter of mine and in the last two years an exceptional mom.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received? – My parents always had very high expectations and instilled in me that whatever I chose to do, simply do my best with a smile on my face.

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Genuine.

If you could have a super power, what would it be? – Super speed. Like Quicksilver from X-Men, to clarify.

If you could choose any other profession to be successful in, what would it be? – If it weren’t for my love of Omaha, and all the family I have close to me in the Midwest, my dream job would be to play golf professionally.

What is your favorite local restaurant? – Thai Pepper, 114th & Dodge.
