The Grounds Guys of SW Omaha is local, veteran-owned nationwide franchise specializing in full service landscape maintenance.  Brandy Prettyman is the co-owner of The Grounds Guys of SW Omaha franchise.

Tell us a little about your business. – We are customer focused and quality driven. Whether it’s mowing, landscaping, tree removal, pest control, holiday lighting or snow and ice services, The Grounds Guys has been able to bring a level of customer care that is unprecedented in our industry. We specialize in all property types from residential all the way to large commercial and government properties.

How did you get started in the business? – My husband and I always knew that we wanted to own a business; we were just never really sure what that opportunity would look like. After finishing up our time in the military, we were working as federal contractors and saw an opportunity with The Grounds Guys to begin a landscape and lawn care franchise in the Omaha area. The Grounds Guys is a great fit for us because of the corporate values and the expertise they bring to the table. We try to stand above our competition, not just by providing a great service, but also by going above expectations and looking out for our customer’s needs – not just our own.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced professionally? – Time management.  I have always been a very “A” type personality so I am used to doing what needs to be done. However, there are hundreds of things that need to get done daily and there is never enough time for one single person to do all of them. Understanding when I need to personally handle something and when I should be delegating that task to others has been the biggest challenge I’ve faced since opening the company.

Tell me a little about your family. – My husband Dan and I have been married for 12 years and we have three boys from toddler to teenager. My youngest is 4 and is a complete chatterbox – the only time it’s quiet in the house is when he’s asleep or at daycare!  Our family loves to cook together (and against each other!). We love to have competitions on who can make the best sandwich (my husband) or which one of us can eat the hottest wing sauce (me).

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off? – I love to read! I read everything from non-fiction to fantasy and everything in between. Two of my favorite authors are Nelson DeMille and Jodi Picoult.

If you could choose only one descriptive word to be remembered as, what would it be? – Imaginative

What is your favorite movie? – Lean on Me.  It a fantastic movie loosely based on the real-life experiences of Principle Joe Clark of Eastside High in the 1980’s.

If you could have dinner with one famous person from the past or present, who would it be? – No question: Morgan Freeman. I have always been a HUGE fan of him and his work, and his commitment to what he loves doing. I think to be able to sit down and talk to him about his life, both in and out of Hollywood, would be a great experience.
