National Medical Education Body Honors UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold for Outstanding Service

University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D. was honored on November 7th by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) with the organization’s Outstanding Service Award for 2015. The award, which recognizes individuals whose work has a major impact on the quality of medical education in North America, has only been awarded three times.

Dr. Gold’s accomplishments include the transition from a pure accrediting body to an accrediting body that works equally hard or harder to help medical schools help themselves to enhance programs and student success.

The LCME is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as an accrediting agency for medical education programs leading to the M.D. degree. Dr. Gold has been involved in the LCME since 2008, serving as the organization’s co- chair from 2011-13 and as chair from 2013-14. The award was presented at the LCME Service Recognition Reception and Award Ceremony in Baltimore.
