Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium Welcomes Dr. Jason Herrick

Dr. Jason Herrick joins Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium (OmahaZoo.com) as the new director of reproductive sciences.

Herrick will be tasked with evolving the Zoo’s internationally recognized reproductive research program, improving the success of natural and assisted breeding efforts and maintaining genetically viable animal populations, both at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium and other institutions accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA).

He draws on more than 20 years of experience, having held positions at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden’s Center for Conservation and Research of Endangered Wildlife (CREW), the University of Illinois at Urbana – Champaign’s Department of Comparative Biosciences and, most recently, the Colorado Center for Reproductive Medicine.

Herrick remains actively involved in on-going studies for in-vitro fertilization in domestic cats, fertility in male snow leopards and the management of sand cats and black-footed cats in human care using artificial insemination.

He is also a member of multiple felid conservation groups affiliated with AZA, as well as the South Africa-based Black-Footed Cat Working Group and, to date, has co-authored more than 25 scientific publications on various species.

Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium (OmahaZoo.com) is currently open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Winter general admission prices are $14.95 for adults (12-64), $13.95 for seniors (64 and over) and $9.95 for children (3-11) through March 14.
