The Latino Center of the Midlands is pleased to announce it was recently awarded a grant in the amount of $363,094 from United Way of the Midlands (UWM). Thanks to the generosity of the United Way donors, the Latino Center of the Midlands (LCM) is helping South Omaha families prepare for the start of the new school year and beyond.

The investment from UWM is enabling the academic support program to expand to more South Omaha families.  In 2013, the LCM served over 100 high school students by tracking attendance records, grades and class credits. These students receive direct one-to-one assistance and support in order to keep them on track towards graduation. LCM staff also keep in close contact with parents as these youth navigate the challenges of improving academic outcomes.

Moreover, the grant has also allowed the agency to continue serving adult learners and to expand its capacity to improve program results. Last year, one-hundred-and-fifty-two (152) adults completed the Spanish GED program at the Center. Forty-five (45) of these students obtained their certificate.

United Way of the Midlands helps the most vulnerable in our community, and works on human service solutions that will benefit our metro area for generations to come.  Visit www.UnitedWayMidlands.org for more information about the United Way of the Midlands (UWM).
