Recently, the Team Jack Foundation (teamjackfoundation.org) has awarded three research grants totaling $2.2 million. This is the Foundation’s largest grant funding cycle to date. This funding will support research at institutions across the United States, as well as in Germany.
“We are proud to support these outstanding researchers and hope that our funding will result in important discoveries and ultimately, effective treatments for children with brain cancer,” said Kylie Dockter, Team Jack Executive Director.
Robert Wechsler-Reya, PhD of Columbia University was awarded $500,000 for the development of a brain-restricted MYC inhibitor for medulloblastoma. His project is aided by researchers at the University of California-Berkeley, University of California-San Francisco, and Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute.
Pratiti (Mimi) Bandopadhayay, MBBS, PhD, of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and her colleagues Timothy Phoenix, PhD, of the University of Cincinnati, and David Jones, PhD, of German Cancer Research Center received a $1.2 Million grant for their project: Dissecting the interplay between drivers of pediatric low-grade gliomas and the developing brain.
The University of Colorado’s Rajeev Vibhakar, MD, PhD, MPH/MSPH and Sujatha Venkataraman, PhD, were awarded $575,000 for their DIPG study Facilitating the translation of experimental “gated” CAR-T cell therapy to treat DIPG, a deadly type of childhood brain cancer.
