Parkinson’s Nebraska Laces Up for the 2019 UNMC Skate-a-Thon

Parkinson’s Nebraska (www.parkinsonsnebraska.org) is preparing for its annual fundraiser in partnership with the UNMC. The 2019 UNMC Skate-a-Thon for Parkinson’s is a 24-hour family-friendly event that will take place at the UNMC Ice Rink (4016 Emile St.) from 2 p.m. on Friday, January 25 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 26.

This marks the ninth year Parkinson’s Nebraska has partnered with UNMC. This partnership has helped the Skate-a-Thon grow from one family’s backyard tradition into a tradition for over 500 participants, increasing its reach and impact. The money raised at this event will go towards supporting Parkinson’s research at UNMC and providing services, such as group exercise classes, support groups, and education to the Nebraska Parkinson’s community.

Individual tickets are $15 and family tickets are $50 for a household (two adults, up to eight children). Tickets include ice skate rental and unlimited skating during the event. Another option is to create a Rock the Clock Team by recruiting family, friends, and co-workers to form a group and then divide up the 24 hours in order to have a team representative on the ice at all times! Rock-the Clock Team tickets are $15 per person and include ice skate rental, unlimited ice skating, and recognition throughout the event.

Participants can raise more money for Parkinson’s research and services by collecting donations from their “cheerleaders” during their time on the ice. Prizes will be awarded to the individual, family, and Rock the Clock team that raises the most money. Tickets are available now at Eventbrite.com. Sponsorship and volunteer opportunities are available as well.
