ONI Becomes First Employer to Use eSight Digital Eyewear in Workplace

Outlook Nebraska, Inc. (ONI; outlooknebraska.org) has announced that it is officially the first employer in America to bring eSight digital eyewear into the workplace and the first to equip multiple associates with this technology. eSight is a device that uses breakthrough technology to capture, enhance, and display a real-time video that enables sight for people with low vision and legal blindness.

Designed for people with 20/100 to 20/800 best corrected vision, this eyewear was first introduced in August of last year. Currently, there are only 400 eSight wearers worldwide and Outlook Nebraska is the first business to invest in the technology for its employees, sharing five pairs across 10 associates.

In a test at ONI, 12 legally blind associates tried the digital eyewear.  All demonstrated a 10-fold increase in vision capacity (going from 20/400 to 20/40 or 20/800 to 20/80, etc.) effectively overcoming their vision limitations.  The eyewear showed benefits across a variety of vision conditions including macular degeneration, Stargardt’s, Optic Atrophy, Retinal Pigmentosa, and more.

ONI is one of just two locations in the United States where individuals can try the eyewear and hosts personal trial days once a month. Individuals who meet the vision loss criteria can register for a private trial appointment at www.outlooknebraska.com.
