The evening of May 13, a crowd of 200-plus welcomed the arrival of Ole Black Rose, the 2014 Helping with Horsepower Bike Rebuild motorcycle. The crowd was in awe at the transformation of the 1987 Harley-Davidson FXR, redesigned, rebuilt and customized by our youth over a 16-week period. Under the guidance of mechanics from Black Rose Machine Shop Inc., the youth had a fantastic experience, learning about communication, compromise and teamwork.

While the initial phase of the program involves work on the bike, the second involves displaying the finished motorcycle at various locations throughout Nebraska to promote raffle ticket sales and culminates at OHB’s Restoring Hearts with Bike Parts celebration Thursday, Sept. 25, at Hilton Omaha. The customized bike will be given away to a lucky raffle winner at this motorcycle-attire-themed event which will offer cocktails, a silent auction dinner and entertainment. Iraq and Afghani war hero Rudy Reyes, who appeared in HBO’s Generation Kill miniseries, will be this year’s inspirational speaker.

Raffle tickets to win Ole Black Rose go on sale June 28 ($20 each, 3 for $50 and 6 for $100). Contact Trish at (402) 457-7034 or phaniszewski@omahahomeforboys.org for more information. Thanks to all of the sponsors for their continued support of this project and the Omaha Home for Boys!
