MICAH House proudly celebrates its 40th anniversary, marking four decades of impact, resilience, and community. Over the last 40 years, MICAH House has continually evolved to meet the changing needs of the families and women experiencing homelessness across the Omaha Metro and Southwest Iowa.
Founded in 1986, MICAH House began as a small shelter in a former convent. Today, it has grown into a comprehensive shelter program serving more than 700 individuals each year, providing safe shelter and critical support services to families and women facing homelessness.
“MICAH House has continued to evolve and change as the community needs have evolved and changed,” said Executive Director Ashley Flater. “We want to continue to be really intentional with our services to provide the stability and support that our families, women, and community expect from us.”
MICAH House offers a unique shelter model designed to promote dignity and stability. Private family rooms, semi-private women’s rooms, and access to intensive case management, onsite childcare, and additional supportive services help remove barriers and create pathways to long-term housing and stability.
“That’s what is to be most proud of… how we’ve been able to evolve, but the one thing that’s always been constant is that we’ve been there for the people that need us,” says Philanthropy Director, Maren Larsen. “We’re 40 years in, and we plan to be here for decades to come.”
