MICAH House is pleased to announce it was recently awarded a $100,000 grant from United Way of the Midlands (www.UnitedWayMidlands.org).

Thanks to the generosity of the United Way donors, over 650 youth and adults each year who are experiencing homelessness will have access to emergency shelter, basic needs, and resources to assist securing permanent housing.

MICAH House, located in Council Bluffs and serving all of the southwest Iowa/Omaha Metro area, is an emergency shelter serving families and individuals who are experiencing the crisis of homelessness. According to the Metro Area Continuum of Care for the homeless, 1,481 individuals are homeless on any given night in our community. In addition, more families are entering emergency shelter than in the previous five years.

With the help of this award, MICAH House is able to offer shelter and basic needs, individualized case management services, an on-site Licensed Social Worker who provides clinical assessments and support, budgeting and employment education, free professional clothing, parenting education and support.  In addition, MICAH provides links to housing assistance programs, counseling, employment, health screenings, legal aid, and early childhood education. In 2014, MICAH House provided 23,323 nights of shelter and served 29,330 meals.
