On Friday, Sept. 11, more than 600 volunteers will roll up their sleeves and come together across the Omaha-Council Bluffs metro in service for United Way of the Midlands’ (unitedwaymidlands.org) annual Day of Caring event.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of UWM bringing people together across Douglas, Sarpy and Pottawattamie counties to give back to their community through projects like food distribution, yardwork, wrapping diapers and more.
“As we celebrate 25 years of Day of Caring, we are grateful to our corporate partners who encourage their employees to volunteer, and to the hundreds of individuals who share their time and talents with us on this special day,” said Shawna Forsberg, UWM president and CEO. “Together, these volunteers provide critical support to local nonprofits, helping ensure essential services remain within reach for families.”
With this year also marking the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, UWM is proud to be part of Heartland Honors 9/11 – a volunteer-led effort bringing the Omaha metro together to remember, reflect and say thank you to service members, veterans and first responders through acts of service and remembrance.
“Whether you’re volunteering on your own or with a team, we invite you to share your hands and heart with our community this September 11,” said Carly Weld, UWM director of volunteerism. “Day of Caring is an opportunity to give back, connect with others and make a meaningful difference for local nonprofits and the communities they serve.”
