HETRA to Offer 12-Week Horse Academy

HETRA (www.hetra.org) will be hosting a Horse Academy 101 for individuals with minimal horse experience who want to increase their knowledge level. This 12-week class will meet on Tuesday evenings from 7:30 until 8:30 p.m. from July 2 to September 17. Participants must be at least 14 years of age. The course cost is $120 for HETRA volunteers and $240 for the public.

The course will consist of approximately 20 minutes of hands-on activity with the horses and an additional 30 minutes of classroom activities. The point of the course to improve understanding of horse behavior and communication, basic horse anatomy, haltering, grooming and tacking, and beginner handling skills. You can also earn a grooming or tacking certification during the course.

There will also be a more advanced class offered, Horse Academy 102. This course is for individuals who already know basic horse handling skills and want to learn about lunging, round penning, and other advanced horse techniques. This class will be held Wednesdays from 7 to 8 p.m. beginning July 3 and going until September 18.
