Firefly (firefly.kids) is honored to receive $63,000 in funding from United Way of the Midlands (UWM) to strengthen three programs serving families in Pottawattamie County: $13,000 for the Healthy Pregnancy Program, $25,000 for the Mobile Wellness Unit and $25,000 for Early Head Start Home Visitation.
These investments will improve access to critical health and family support services for children and parents facing economic, transportation and healthcare barriers. The Healthy Pregnancy Program provides home-based nursing, care coordination and maternal mental health support. The Mobile Wellness Unit delivers preventive health and oral health screenings, connects families to medical and dental homes, and expands school-based oral health services. Early Head Start Home Visitation offers evidence-based parent education, developmental screenings and individualized support that promotes healthy child development and family stability.
United Way’s investment will help more families access care earlier, improve child health and school readiness, strengthen parenting skills and connect families with essential community resources.
One participant in Firefly’s Healthy Pregnancy Program shared that regular home visits and support helped her overcome transportation barriers, stay connected to prenatal care and welcome a healthy baby with confidence.
