FAMILY, Inc. Encourages Health Screenings in Children

FAMILY, Inc.’s (familyia.org) Family Support Team is dedicated to promoting developmental growth and school readiness in children ages 0-5 across Pottawattamie County. Health screenings play a vital role in ensuring children are able to learn and grow to their full potential. By offering health screenings, such as hearing, vision, lead, and oral health, FAMILY, Inc. team members can quickly identify any potential concerns that may create barriers for learning in children served in our family support programs.

FAMILY Inc.’s I-Smile, 1st Five, Maternal Health, and Family Support teams work seamlessly to ensure all of these screenings can take place in one location through the Mobile Wellness Unit. In working together, the FAMILY, Inc. team is able to decrease the amount of time parents and children would need to wait for all of these screenings to occur if they would have to make separate appointments. All children enrolled in Family Support services with FAMILY, Inc. receive hearing and vision screenings upon entry into the program and then annually. To make health screenings a little more fun, FAMILY, Inc. will be hosting wellness events at the end of July, which will include a free book for all children from Raise Me to Read, fun activities, games, and prizes. Wellness events will be hosted in a central location and in rural Iowa to ensure accessibility to all children and families.

FAMILY Inc. provides public-health education, support, and connection to resources for women, children, and families in Pottawattamie and Mills counties. To learn more about how to support FAMILY Inc.’s mission, visit familyia.org.
