Food insecurity continues to rise in our community, impacting families, children, and individuals who have never before needed help putting food on the table. Open Door Mission is calling on local businesses, organizations, and groups to step up as Hunger Heroes by hosting food drives to help meet this growing need.
Food drives can be held anytime that works best for a business or group, making it easy for workplaces, schools, churches, and civic organizations to get involved. Donations collected through these drives directly support local families facing food shortages.
“Food insecurity is such a huge issue right now and so many families who have never needed help before, are seeking help to feed their families,” said Candace Gregory, President/CEO of Open Door Mission. “We appreciate everyone who hosts a drive to help with the increased need.”
Some of the most urgently needed food items include cereal, boxed meals such as Hamburger Helper, canned vegetables, and Mac & cheese. These items are staples for families and help ensure that nutritious, filling meals are available for those seeking assistance.
By becoming a Hunger Hero, community members can make a meaningful impact and provide hope to neighbors in need. To learn more about hosting a food drive or to get started, visit OpenDoorMission.org
