Autism Action Partnership (autismaction.org) will host a celebration of World Autism Day on April 4, 2026, from noon to 2 p.m. at Omaha’s Gene Leahy Mall at The RiverFront. The celebration is free and open to the public.
“Autism Acceptance Month reminds us that inclusion doesn’t happen by accident,” said Michaela Ahrens, VP of Operations. “It happens when neighbors, employers, educators, and community leaders choose to value neurodiversity and commit to meaningful change. We celebrate autistic voices and stand in solidarity with families while inviting the broader community to join us in creating opportunities where everyone can thrive.”
The event serves as the kickoff to Autism Acceptance Month. In recent years, the conversation surrounding autism has evolved from awareness to acceptance. While awareness is an important first step, acceptance creates a lasting impact for autistic individuals and their families. Acceptance means building communities where autistic people are valued, included, and supported in meaningful ways. It goes beyond recognizing autism’s existence and calls us to embrace neurodiversity, remove barriers, and foster genuine belonging in our communities.
During the month of April, be on the lookout around town for AAP’s Autism Acceptance Month billboard campaign, highlighting the theme “Uniqueness Unites Us.”
