American Heart Association Hosts Another Successful Go Red for Women Expo

Omaha’s mothers, sisters, and friends came together at the American Heart Association’s (www.heart.org/en/affiliates/nebraska/omaha) 2019 Omaha Go Red for Women Expo on September 24, locally sponsored by Nebraska Methodist Health System. This empowering event focuses on preventing heart disease and stroke by promoting healthy lifestyles, building awareness, and raising critically-needed funds to support research and education initiatives.

The unforgettable evening inspired 600 guests to honor the heart health of the women in their lives and raise more than $350,000 in the fight against heart disease and stroke. The honorary chair was Ellen Wright, and the Circle of Red co-chairs were Sharon Marvin Igel and Barb Fitzgerald.

Thirty-one-year-old Dana Alm was this year’s guest of honor and featured survivor. Through sharing her heart-wrenching story of suffering a stroke and heart attack just one month after having her first child, she inspired the audience with her positivity and story of recovery. Joining Alm to share their own personal stories of resilience was the Omaha Go Red for Women Survivor Show. The runway featured nine women of various ages sharing their story of survival and how they are making more moments in their life.

Go Red for Women is one of the premier American Heart Association fundraising events both locally and across the nation. The next event will be held in September 2020.
