American Cancer Society Breaks Ground on $11.5 Million Hope Lodge in Nebraska

The American Cancer Society (www.hopelodgenebraska.org) officially broke ground for the Hope Lodge Nebraska facility on Thursday, September 29. Once the Society opens its doors, the Hope Lodge will improve the quality of life of cancer patients and their families by providing free lodging for patients who travel more than 40 miles to Omaha to receive their cancer treatment at any of the areas cancer treatment centers. The future site of Hope Lodge is 8104 Farnam Drive in Omaha.

In an assessment compiled by American Cancer Society and the four major health centers in Nebraska, the following indicators show the need of Hope Lodge in Nebraska: Each year over 9,200 cancer patients travel over 40 miles to Omaha for their treatment. No other organization provides long-term accommodations free of charge. Hope Lodge will be Nebraska’s lone cancer-only lodging facility. At full occupancy, the Hope Lodge Nebraska community will provide more than 10,500 stays for patients and their caregivers each year, with the average stay being approximately 35 nights. This is in addition to the accommodations provided through the Hotel Partners Program.

Local organizations, foundations, individuals and companies have contributed nearly 75% of the $11.5 million goal to date to achieve this milestone. The Society still needs the community’s help now and when construction is completed. For more details, please call (402) 398-0771 or visit www.hopelodgenebraska.org.
