The American Heart Association is pleased to announce it was recently awarded a $51,088 grant from the United Way of the Midlands. Thanks, in part, to the generosity of the United Way donors, the American Heart Association will be able to educate women and youth in the Omaha Metro area on risk factors and prevention of heart disease.

The United Way of the Midlands grant of $28,135 will go towards the American Heart Association’s “Go Red For Women” program. This awareness and education program seeks to draw attention to the unique nature of heart disease in women; to educate women on the risk factors of heart disease and stroke; and further education on the warning signs of heart attack in women and the appropriate response.

The United Way of the Midlands grant of $22,953 to The American Heart Association’s Community Youth Program is helping deliver the message to elementary, middle and high school students that their overall health is linked to heart disease and stroke. The program, implemented through health, science and physical education classes, educates youth on how the heart works; nutrition; exercise; and smoking prevention.
