Alzheimer’s Association, Nebraska Chapter to Host Advocacy Day at State Capitol

Advocates will meet with their state elected officials at the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org) Advocacy Day at the State Capitol on March 16. During this time they will share how Alzheimer’s has impacted their lives and make strategic requests of state policymakers.

“The Alzheimer’s Association Annual Advocacy Day is one of the most powerful opportunities that we have to influence Alzheimer’s related legislation in Nebraska,” said Viv Ewing, Executive Director of the local Alzheimer’s Association chapter.

In addition to the human toll of the disease, care for Alzheimer’s – the country’s most expensive condition – costs the nation $214 billion in 2014 with projections to reach $1.2 trillion by 2050. These staggering numbers do not include unpaid care by friends and family valued at $216 billion a year or the more than $9 billion in increased healthcare costs for caregivers own health.
