WasteCap Nebraska held their 2012 Sustainability Summit and Sustainable Business Awards luncheon October 10th.  Seven Nebraska businesses received awards for their environmental, social and economic performance.

Winners were: Assurity Life Insurance Company- 2012 Sustainable Business of the Year With their new LEED Gold certified building, active Green Team and sustainability policies that optimize waste and energy reduction, employee wellness and community giving, Assurity has been a leader in the business community.

Harding & Shultz, P.C., L.L.O. – 2012 Member of the Year Harding & Shultz support WasteCap Nebraska by volunteering, attending events and providing pro bono legal services, and have established exemplary environmental practices at their headquarters.

Woodward’s Disposal Service, Inc. – 2012 Recycler of the Year  Woodward’s Disposal Service has been operated by one family for 4 generations and has been a recycling trailblazer in the Hastings area.  They provide free curbside recycling, plus composting and paper shredding operations for their customers.

Ayars & Ayars, Inc. – 2012 Best Place to Work Award Ayars & Ayars has a strong commitment to their employees’ well-being, providing on-site exercise equipment and showers, a family lounge and daycare, on-the-job tournaments (e.g. ping pong), jobsite barbeques, free lawn care and snow removal for employees working out of town, and allowing employees’ companion animals at work on a daily basis.

State Farm Insurance – 2012 Employee Engagement Award State Farm has an engaged and successful Green Team that has involved a high percentage of employees in environmental and community-minded projects, including their annual Earth Day celebration that attracts over 600 employees.

EcoStores Nebraska – 2012 Product Stewardship Award EcoStores Nebraska sells serviceable building, construction and remodeling materials at reduced prices to benefit the community and reduce the amount of construction waste that is landfilled. They also accept used paints and recycle fluorescent lamps.

Matt Talbot Kitchen and Outreach – 2012 Commonwealth Award Matt Talbot Kitchen and Outreach serves the hungry and homeless in Lincoln, and yet their high-quality programs and policies have also reduced their environmental footprint and stimulated community involvement.
