On Wednesday, April 29th at Champions Run, roughly 150 business owners, CEOs, and executives from the Greater Omaha Community gathered to hear a stimulating two-hour keynote address on leadership.  The unique event was jointly sponsored by The Alternative Board (TABwww.tabmidlands.com) and Premier Bank, and it featured a powerful message from Dr. Kim Hoogeveen – the owner of MindSet, a leadership training and consultation company.

The focus of Dr. Hoogeveen’s presentation was on MindSet leadership insights that are essential to building and protecting a company culture that will have the power to attract, grow, retain, and motivate employees.  Some of the topics Hoogeveen touched upon included the need for what he termed a steely-eyed focus on cultural health, better leadership practices related to employee recruitment, a profile for supervisor selection, dynamic compensation systems, staff evaluation systems that leaders and employees appreciate, and innovative staff development programs.  He also emphasized that leaders often need to do a better job dealing with poor staff performance and building a sense of pride among employees.  Hoogeveen challenged several traditional business practices and encouraged attendees to enthusiastically differentiate their companies from the norm.  He offered what seemed like at times a rapid-fire listing of specific suggestions as to how executives could improve their operations in all these areas.

Prior to developing MindSet, Dr. Hoogeveen was the founding CEO of QLI, now the nation’s premier post-hospital rehabilitation center for brain and spinal cord injury.  Under Hoogeveen’s leadership, QLI became renowned for its cultural health, having now five times been recognized by the Omaha Chamber of Commerce and Baird Holm as the #1 Best Place to Work in Omaha.
