Omaha Press Club Honors Tom O’Connor as Newest Face on the Barroom Floor

For the past 40 years, Tom O’Connor has been a public relations fixture in dealing with Nebraska media. He was honored on February 5th as the 148th Face on the Barroom Floor by the Omaha Press Club (omahapressclub.com).

This marks O’Connor’s 15th year leading the OPC’s Face on the Barroom Floor Committee, which recognizes Nebraskans for their contributions to media.  He has been involved in the last 62 Face events. He also is a member of the OPC Membership and Marketing Committee and is a frequent contributor to the club’s monthly newsletter, OPC News. In 2001, he served as OPC president.

For the past 28 years, O’Connor has worked in public relations at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. A 1972 journalism graduate of Creighton University, O’Connor was sports editor of the Shenandoah, Iowa, Evening Sentinel (1972-1974) before working for Mutual of Omaha for 13 years, including 11 years in media relations.

He served as president of the Nebraska Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) in 1995, after being named the PRSA Professional of the Year in 1994.
