State Farm Insurance provided a $30,000 grant that supported the work of two Nebraska Food Banks during 2013. Food Bank for the Heartland used $22,500 in grant funding from State Farm to help meet one of its biggest challenges, feeding people in need in rural communities. The State Farm funding allowed the Food Bank to purchase nutritious food for distribution through the Mobile Pantry program. Mobile pantries were conducted over the summer in Wayne, O’Neill, Grand Island, Scottsbluff, Schuyler, Niobrara and Burwell. The Food Bank of Lincoln received $7,500 for its summer BackPack Program, a huge boost for children and families needing assistance when school meals are unavailable during the summer months.
