This fall, Mead Lumber (meadlumber.com) marks a major milestone: 25 years since becoming an employee-owned company and 10 years as 100% employee owned. Founded in 1910, the company launched its Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) on September 25, 2000, giving employees a stake in the business. In 2014, Bob Mead, the last family owner, sold his remaining shares to employees, completing the transition to full employee ownership.
The milestone will be celebrated across all 53 Mead Lumber locations in nine states, with employees gathering for events, team meals and stories from the more than 30 employees who were part of the first group of ESOP participants 25 years ago.
Employee ownership has provided long-term benefits, including retirement savings tied to the company’s success, attracting and retaining talent, and fostering a culture where everyone has a personal stake in the business. This culture has supported steady growth and strong relationships with contractors, remodelers and communities across the region.
Mead Lumber’s celebration coincides with ESOP Month in October, a national recognition of employee-owned companies and their role in strengthening employees, families and communities.
