Massena Farms, a leader in natural and organic agriculture, recently announced a national funding push to provide Omaha residents with healthier, better tasting chicken. The funding drive is part of a plan to offer pasture raised, locally processed, organic chicken free of antibiotics, herbicides or pesticides to Omaha residents. They’ll be raised free on organic pastures with access to plenty of non-GMO grain, fresh bugs and cool, clean water. And, these chickens will travel less than 30 miles from pasture to plate.

The short-term objective is to raise $17,000 through the crowd funding site Indiegogo (www.indiegogo.com). The Massena Farms campaign is called Healthier Foods for Healthier Communities. Massena Farms will start with chickens and add other pasture raised meats and organic vegetables as it builds a local network of organic farmers and food processors. The ultimate goal is to effectively service Omaha area grocers, restaurants and local institutions such as schools, government offices and hospitals.

Massena Farms is an 80 acre farm near Omaha, NE with a history of producing specialty organic grains. The vision is to build, in partnership with other stakeholders, local and sustainable food production systems that align the interests of labor, farmers, consumers, investors and the environment.
