Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce Releases Official Statement on Sale of 11th & Douglas Street Properties

Mayor Jean Stothert made the announcement on November 5th that the City of Omaha and the Simon and Alvine families had come to terms on three 11th Street/Douglas Street properties. According to the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce, this is important and welcome news.

“We congratulate the Mayor for her thoughtful and measured approach to negotiating the purchase of these properties. This agreement allows for two extraordinary downtown development projects to proceed: the new world headquarters for HDR, one of the nation’s top ten A&E firms; and the expansion of the Holland Performing Arts Center, an enhancement that will allow Omaha Performing Arts to amplify Omaha’s cultural offerings,” said David G. Brown, president and CEO, Greater Omaha Chamber.

While several steps remain in the process for both of these important projects, this announcement enables the development process to move ahead on an extremely tight timeline. The announced acquisition involves three older buildings in the community, one of which is a federally designated historical landmark.

“We look forward to collaborating with the City of Omaha, Omaha Performing Arts and the historic preservation community to find an appropriate solution to ensure lasting recognition of the historically significant building,” said Clark Lauritizen, Chairman of the Board, Greater Omaha Chamber Board of Directors.
