Through this award, First Interstate is recognized among the “best-of-the-best” whose contributions elevate Greater Omaha and make it a better place to do business, work and live. The Business Excellence Award in Philanthropy celebrates First Interstate for its philosophy of giving, making a significant impact on the Omaha metropolitan community’s health and well-being through above-and-beyond support to foster an environment of community improvement.
Each year, the Bank earmarks approximately 2% of pre-tax earnings to fund the First Interstate BancSystem Foundation, their philanthropic arm. The Foundation provides the communities they serve with resources and leadership through avenues like awarding grants, providing financial education and matching donations by their employees. First Interstate also pays nonprofits for the hours their employees volunteer in service to them, furthering their impact. The Foundation relies on people in their branches to identify community urgencies, so funding and support are directed to the areas of greatest need.
In Omaha, First Interstate participates in and supports the Child Saving Institute, Completely Kids, Project Intentional, Heartland Mission, Habitat for Humanity Omaha, Pay it Forward, Make-A-Wish Nebraska, and many others. Finally, they are supporting Elkhorn Athletic Association ball fields, to be known as First Interstate Bank SportsPlex, serving more than 8,000 youth in west and northwest Omaha.
