Cornhusker State Games National Anthem Finalists Announced

Cornhusker State Games (CSG) (CornhuskerStateGames.com) officials have announced four finalists in the 2017 CSG National Anthem Contest. Finalists include Nathan Bonsall, 17, Kearney; Ava Gropp, 10, Lincoln; Kristen Hoffart, 40, Norfolk and Evan Wohlers, 17, Omaha.

The audition videos for the finalists are now posted on YouTube at 2017 CSG National Anthem Contest. The video with the most likes will earn the honor of performing the Star Spangled Banner at the Opening Ceremonies on Friday, July 21.

The finalists were chosen from among nine vocalists who submitted audition videos. A selection team ranked the auditions, and the top four were chosen for the public-voting phase. Besides the opportunity to perform at the Ceremonies, the winner receives a gift package from the Cornhusker State Games and Amigos/Kings Classic, which sponsors the contest.

Besides the National Anthem and flag presentation, Opening Ceremonies include the traditional parade of athletes, skydivers, mascots, a torch-lighting ceremony, fireworks and a star-studded exhibition of 150 years of sports in Nebraska. Ceremonies take place at Lincoln’s Seacrest Field at 8 p.m. on July 21 and are preceded by SportFest, including the free athlete meal and entertainment, from 4:30 – 7 p.m.

The 33rd annual Cornhusker State Games, which take place July 21-30, are expected to draw 12,000 participants to competition venues in Lincoln, Omaha and surrounding communities. More than 68 sports are offered for athletes of all ages and abilities. Participant registration is open through July 5th. All details are available at CornhuskerStateGames.com.
